Lufthansa Baggage Policy Concerning Ski/Snowbaord bags

  1. Lufthansa’s policy on ski & snowboard bags is very strict, more so than other airlines. If you cannot meet these rules, we recommend renting skis/snowboards at the hotel.
  2. Lufthansa baggage website: https://www.lufthansa.com/gq/en/prepare-for-your-trip/baggage#baggage-types
  3. One bag may be checked at no charge as long as it meets the size and weight limits specified on the Lufthansa website.
  4. A ski (or snowboard) bag and a boot bag counts as one bag so long as the rules below are followed.
  5. Lufthansa is extremely strict when it comes to their ski/snowboard bag policies. Specifically: A ski/snowboard bag is a bag that contains 1 pair of skis, bindings and poles (or a snowboard). A boot bag contains 1 pair of boots and 1 helmet. Any additional items in the bags (even if it is just for padding) will be cause for the airline to charge each bag as a separate item. You may be charged up to $285.00 each way, for not following these guidelines. Lufthansa has and will inspect your bags (more so than other airlines).
  6. Lufthansa requires ski/snowboard bags be registered. You must inform the trip leader if you are bringing a ski or snowboard bag at least one week prior to the flight so we can register it.
